Buxton 'is about 10 miles north of Norwich and 4 miles South East of Aylsham.
The road layout of the village has remained very similar over the last two centuries. New housing has been built on the glebe land off Brook Street, and on the north side of the village. The water mill on the River Bure has been converted to a hotel and the Bure Valley light railway runs along the course of the old branch line. Farmland surrounds the village. The old workhouse was pulled down some time ago and no trace of it now remains. The Church was substantially rebuilt in the 19th century, re-using original stonework and to the same design as before, though the height of the church tower was raised slightly. A new village school stands to the west of the church, the old school building in Stratton Strawless road, just to the west of Horstead Road, is now a private dwelling. There is no industry in the village which retains two Pubs and shops.
Directions from Norwich - Follow the B1150 north for about 8 miles to Horstead. Turn left by the Recruiting Sergeant PH along the B1354 and you reach Buxton after another 3-4 miles.
