Document Reference: Survey - Description

Date Added: May 09, 2001

Coltishall is located about 8 miles NNE of Norwich and 6 miles SE of Aylsham

Coltishall is the navigable limit of the River Bure. It's church is largely unaltered and stands on the Wroxham Road heading south out of the village, which retains several pubs and a couple of shops. The Bure Valley railway runs past the north of the village, following the course of an old branch line from Hoveton to Aylsham. The parish of Great Hautbois was absorbed into Coltishall and the remains of its church stand off the Lamas road (the site of the castle is to the south of Hautbois church). The layout of roads in the village has changed little, to the north of the village is Coltishall Airfield - an RAF base.

To get to Coltishall, from Norwich follow the B1150 North, through Catton and Crostwick. Go over the River Bure at Horstead and you're in Coltishall.
